Today we had the last of a batch of work permits approved.
In recent times we have had more than expected delays due to medical issues. We have 100% success with all permits for candidates we choose to represent who meet our criteria, that indicates having a high chance of success.
But we have had anxious times as out of recent applications processed a greater than normal percentage have been referred to the medical council in Wellington, resulting in 2 to 12 week delays as one candidate needed 3 medical tests.
The issues have been relatively minor and all candidates have eventually secured the desired permits with our support and help and have started work.
The medical requirements have not changed but appear to be being applied in a more cautious manner by New Zealand Immigration Staff.
This opinion has been formed by our own observations and the observations of Doctors performing Medicals who have spoken to candidates we represent.
Accordingly we strongly suggest that all candidates seeking permits to work and live in New Zealand should undergo a full medical before embarking on their plans to come to New Zealand.

Even comparatively straight forward and easily treatable medical anomalies should be thoroughly investigated as things like
- High blood pressure ( often caused by the stress of immigration)
- Cholesterol out side normal ranges
- Blood results out side normal ranges
- Pre existing treatable minor aliments
Have resulted regularly, in 1 month or worst case to date 3 month delay in permit success.
This unexpected delay in starting work can put considerable stain on Candidate financial resources and we have seen the distress and despair in candidates facing delays and have expended considerable resources to counsel and advise these candidates
In one case the candidate had all but given up hope and was preparing to return to South Africa, Only ours and the employers support kept him here to start his new life.
We can not influence NZ Immigration procedures or the application of existing policy. But our criteria and understanding of immigration procedure to date has resulted in 100% success in permit application approvals. We have also never had an application declined for medical or police clearance problems as we select and advise candidates carefully. But these issues are beyond our control.
It is only sensible if wishing to start a new life in New Zealand that you prepare by looking after your greatest asset your health.
