Work Permit/Visa Medical Issues

Today we had the last of a batch of work permits approved.
In recent times we have had more than expected delays due to medical issues. We have 100% success with all permits for candidates we choose to represent who meet our criteria, that indicates having a high chance of success.

But we have had anxious times as out of recent applications processed a greater than normal percentage have been referred to the medical council in Wellington, resulting in 2 to 12 week delays as one candidate needed 3 medical tests.
The issues have been relatively minor and all candidates have eventually secured the desired permits with our support and help and have started work.

The medical requirements have not changed but appear to be being applied in a more cautious manner by New Zealand Immigration Staff.

This opinion has been formed by our own observations and the observations of Doctors performing Medicals who have spoken to candidates we represent.

Accordingly we strongly suggest that all candidates seeking permits to work and live in New Zealand should undergo a full medical before embarking on their plans to come to New Zealand.

The New Zealand Medical forms and Guides can be downloaded from the New Zealand Immigration site. A link to it can be found here at helpme.co.nz.

Even if you are having a medical in your country a list of recognised immigration Medical Panel doctors can be found at www.helpme.co.nz on the same links page.

Even comparatively straight forward and easily treatable medical anomalies should be thoroughly investigated as things like

  • High blood pressure ( often caused by the stress of immigration)
  • Cholesterol out side normal ranges
  • Blood results out side normal ranges
  • Pre existing treatable minor aliments

Have resulted regularly, in 1 month or worst case to date 3 month delay in permit success.
This unexpected delay in starting work can put considerable stain on Candidate financial resources and we have seen the distress and despair in candidates facing delays and have expended considerable resources to counsel and advise these candidates

In one case the candidate had all but given up hope and was preparing to return to South Africa, Only ours and the employers support kept him here to start his new life.

We can not influence NZ Immigration procedures or the application of existing policy. But our criteria and understanding of immigration procedure to date has resulted in 100% success in permit application approvals. We have also never had an application declined for medical or police clearance problems as we select and advise candidates carefully. But these issues are beyond our control.

It is only sensible if wishing to start a new life in New Zealand that you prepare by looking after your greatest asset your health.

Sailing to Australia

Been busy with NZ Customs over arranging to get my Father’s Rifle returned to him as he is about to clear customs at Opua in the bay of Islands to Sail to Lord Howe and then on to his home in Mooloolaba on his 34 ft Yacht Rainbow, The last two summers he has sailed over to spend summer with us sailing the Hauraki Gulf (he in his boat my family and I in ours), He expects to be back next year, Not too bad for a man on the pension. This year he sailed via Noumea and New Caledonia and we only just missed spending time with him at Tana Island but schedules didn't coincide due to weather, we did pass about 15 nm from him as we were heading back to New Zealand in Late November after clearing customs but could not raise him on the radio and were in 5-6 mt seas and 40 knot winds at night so did not attempt a rendezvous. As an aside to this blog I may add posts about his progress

Rover Final bit

The last Bit for my car sorted today I hope , after 4 years and much fun my daily driver now is to have the last irritation sorted. The Choke cable slides in and makes starting the car awkward.

After a lot of work on the engine last year I promised I would fix this, but with winter now approaching it is a now task.

Apex Auto Centre http://www.aapex.co.nz/in Hamilton have been most helpful in re manufacturing me a new one, much joy will get back tomorrow and fit in the evening.

This blog

Just set up this blog will see if I can muster the discipline to keep it current, This may be a challenge as Work is busy and growing and with a family, Old House, Old Car and Boat time will be limited. Will add a bit today so you have an idea of who I am
